A preceptor is a person who functions as a teach, mentor and coach in guiding, directing, and supervising nursing healthcare activities of the newly hired clinical associate, transferring staff, or individuals in need of focused support.
Preceptors are nominated by their Director. They receive a differential when precepting.
Upon Director approval, new preceptors and established preceptors seeking recalibration of skills may receive reimbursement for the online course entitled “Being a Preceptor in a Health Care Facility”.This program is offered in partnership with Indiana University’s School of Nursing. Go to http://www.nursing.iupui.edu/LifelongLearning ,then click on "Being a Preceptor in a Healthcare Facility." The cost is $35 (reimbursed if approved by your director.)
