    Dr. Castro Dr. Andrew Castro is an orthopedic spine surgeon with Cornerstone Orthopedics and is one of the spine specialists at Avista Adventist Hospital. Dr. Castro specializes in orthopedics including:

    Dr. Castro graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina, completed his internship and residency at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in New York and completed his fellowship in Complex Spinal Deformity at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. In addition to his medical accreditations, he is a member of the Colorado Medical Society, Scoliosis Research Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

    Dr. Castro has practiced medicine since 2001 and has extensive experience treating complex and simple disorders of the spine including scoliosis, degenerative conditions, trauma and tumors in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Dr. Castro typically utilizes a conservative approach prior to considering surgery.


    Dr. Gerlach Matthew Gerlach, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Front Range Orthopedics and one of the spine specialists at Avista Adventist Hospital. An expert in the surgical treatment of adult and pediatric spinal disorders, he is fellowship-trained in both orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgery techniques including advanced minimally invasive procedures that often result in less pain and faster healing for patients.

    Dr. Gerlach completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Rocky Mountain Spine Clinic, Lone Tree, Colo., and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He attended medical school at the University of Minnesota.

    Dr. Gerlach works closely with a wide network of physical therapists, chiropractors, pain specialists and other non-surgical health care providers to optimize patient outcomes. He also works closely with primary care physicians to improve results for patients.

    Dr. Hudson "I strive to do for each person what I would want for a member of my own family in the same situation. I'm a conservative surgeon with each patient's best whole being outcome at the heart of my recommendations, either medical or surgical."

    Dr. Hudson received his M.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. Additionally he earned his Ph.D. from Denver Health Medical Center in Neuroscience and Pharmacology. Dr. Hudson's undergraduate degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology is from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. He completed his residency in Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado and the Children's Hospital both in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Hudson serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

    He belongs to the following; American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurologic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Colorado Medical Society and the Denver Medical Society. He is Board Eligible in Neurosurgery, and fluent in Spanish.

    Dr. Hudson has two children and he enjoys skiing, biking, swimming, travel and scuba diving and international travel.

    Darbi Invergo, DODr. Darbi Invergo, a specialist in neurological surgery, is proud to join the team of CHPG Neurosciences and Spine. After graduating from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University, Dr. Invergo completed her internship and residency at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois.  She also received specialized training from nationally recognized neurosurgeons at leading academic centers in Illinois, including Northwestern University Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, the Illinois Neurological Institute, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria.  Having recently completed her training, Dr. Invergo is board-eligible and specializes in the treatment of disorders of the brain and spine, including tumors, degenerative diseases, and traumatic injuries. 

    Dr. Invergo works closely with primary care physicians and other neuro healthcare providers to offer coordinated, multi-disciplinary care to achieve the best possible outcome for her patients and their families.

    Originally from Colorado, Dr. Invergo is excited to return to serve the people of her home state.  When not in the office, she enjoys gourmet cooking and spending time outdoors and traveling with her husband.

    Dr. Alexander Mason - Neurosurgeon - Boulder Denver Alexander Mason, MD, is a neurosurgeon at Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates. He is also one of the spine specialists at Avista Adventist Hospital. Dr. Mason's areas of clinical interest include:

    Dr. Mason is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and North American Spine Society.

    Dr. Mason completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base neuro-oncologic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and completed his neurosurgical residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, including a year as chief resident. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio.

    Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Mason has written and presented numerous abstracts and papers at national neurosurgical meetings. He has also written book chapters discussing the latest and most advanced brain tumor research, treatment of brain aneurysms and spinal surgery techniques for the major neurosurgical textbooks. Currently he is participating as an investigator in several ongoing clinical studies involving spine, tumor and vascular research.

    During his residency, Dr. Mason spent a year working for the Senate Majority Leader on Capitol Hill as a health care advisor on neurosurgical and medical public policy.

    Outside of work, Dr. Mason enjoys fly fishing, running, skiing, recreational climbing, camping and cooking. He is also the father of three children and husband of an emergency medicine physician.

    Dr. Morreale Joseph Morreale, MD is an orthopedic spine surgeon at the Center for Spinal Disorders, and is one of the spine specialists at Avista Adventist Hospital. He has extensive training and expertise in degenerative disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine, and is currently researching new options for disc repair and replacement. Dr. Morreale specializes in:

    Dr. Morreale is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa., and completed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at Temple University Hospital, also in Philadelphia.     Dr. Rajpal Dr. Sharad Rajpal is a neurosurgeon with dual neurosurgical and orthopedic spine training with Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates. He is one of the spine specialists at Avista Adventist Hospital. Dr. Rajpal has extensive training in the latest technologies and techniques with interests in:

    • Conditions of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine
    • General neurosurgical conditions, including neuro-oncology and neuro-endoscopy

    Dr. Rajpal received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin, where he continued his training and residency in neurological surgery. After his residency, Dr. Rajpal completed a combined Neurosurgical and Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Ohio, where he gained specialty training in the latest techniques in treating spinal tumors, minimally invasive surgery and complex spinal deformity.

    In addition to being one of the few spine surgeons in the country with dual neurosurgical and orthopedic spine training, Dr. Rajpal has also done extensive research and published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. Dr. Rajpal's objective is to provide personalized, high-quality medical care to each of his patients.

    Dr. Robinson "I am a caring and compassionate physician and person who will make every effort to listen to and understand each of my patient's concerns.     Dr. Robinson received his medical degree from the University of Colorado Heath Sciences Center, a masters degree in molecular biology from the University of Colorado and his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. He completed a surgical internship and neurological surgery at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

    In 2002, Dr. Robinson received the Neil and Catherine Hamilton Medical Research Award for excellence in medical research by a medical student in the field of cancer or multiple sclerosis. He was also selected for the medical student fellowship program by the American Brain Tumor Association Department of Neurosurgery in 2000.

    Dr. Robinson is married with three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, bicycling, skiing and hiking around Colorado.

    Dr. David ShaferDr. Shafer is a neurosurgeon with Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates, and he is one of the spine specialists at Avista Adventist Hospital.  He received his medical degree with honors from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA where he was the recipient of multiple academic awards. He then proceeded to train in neurosurgery at the University of Colorado where he completed his residency, including a year as chief resident.

    During his residency he gained competency in all areas of neurosurgery. These include surgery for spine (traditional and minimally invasive), trauma, tumors, vascular malformations, and functional disorders. He also recently went on a medical mission to Kurdistan, Iraq, where he treated patients in conjunction with the local neurosurgeons and presented at their international surgical symposium.

    Dr. Shafer's clinical interests continue to include general neurosurgery as well as surgery for epilepsy and movement disorders. He is excited to be part of Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates where his goal is to continue to deliver high quality neurosurgical care in a patient-centered model.
