    Dr. Backus is an Orthopedic Surgeon and is fellowship-trained in foot and ankle surgery with a sports emphasis. He is an avid sports-lover and enjoys treating individuals with a passion for being active. He has participated in the care of everyone from weekend warriors to Olympians and professional athletes. He is currently a US Ski Team physician and previously assisted with physician coverage to the (former) St. Louis Rams football and Blues hockey teams during residency at Washington University in St. Louis.

    Dr. Backus is also passionate about research and currently collaborates with the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, CO. He has been involved in many orthopedic research studies over the course of his education and has been published in a number of orthopedic journals. He has also presented his research at the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual meetings. Prior to attending medical school, he was awarded a Cancer Research Training Fellowship at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD. During medical school at Duke University, he spent a year researching post-traumatic arthritis and during fellowship, his research interests included Achilles tendon ruptures, lateral ligament tears and syndesmotic injuries. He continues to conduct research because he enjoys contributing to orthopaedic advancement and improving the quality of patient care.

    William J. Ciccone II, MD is a fellowship-trained orthopedic specialist in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery and was recently named a “Master in Shoulder Arthroscopy” by the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). With this distinguished ranking, Dr. Ciccone will instruct surgeons and residents in advanced arthroscopic surgical techniques.

    Dr. Ciccone received a bachelor’s degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from the University of Colorado in Boulder and graduated with honors from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency at the Pennsylvania State University at Hershey Medical Center. He completed fellowship training at the University of California San Diego in arthroscopy and sports medicine.

    Dr. Ciccone’s sports medicine experience is highlighted by previous position as team physician for the Colorado Rockies AAA team Sky Sox, and as Medical Director for the Rocky Mountain State Games, the State Games of America, and the United States Olympic Training Center events in Chula Vista, CA. Dr. Ciccone is interested in the treatment of knee and shoulder injuries and stays active in the academic community by reviewing research for nationally recognized orthopedic journals. Dr. Ciccone has had multiple publications and is involved with national courses to teach arthroscopic procedures to both residents and surgeons.

    Dr. Eickmann's research in unicondylar arthroplasty has been submitted for publication in the Journal of Arthroplasty, and his research on backside motion in modular hip prosthesis was presented at the Orthopedic Research Society. He has been published in the Journal of Neurosurgery, and co-authored a book chapter about knee replacement in Insall and Scott's "Surgery of the Knee."

    For the past two years, Dr. Eickmann has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, and currently is designing a less invasive hip retractor with Innomed. He serves as a consultant for Medacorp, and is a former member of the Loma Linda University Resident Selection Committee.

    Dr. Eickmann enjoys running, golfing and skiing. He and his wife Cherie have two handsome and brilliant future orthopedic surgeons-Tommy and Teddy, and a beautiful daughter Cassie.

    Dr. Jeff Gagliano, originally from Smithtown, NY, graduated with honors from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology and minor in Microbiology. He was a student athlete during college, playing on the Cornell men’s lacrosse team. Between undergrad and graduate school, he lived in Vail, CO, working as a Beaver Creek ski patroller and white-water guide. He was valedictorian for his master’s degree in physiology at Columbia University in NYC, performing and publishing research in cardiovascular physiology and the immunogenetics of maternal-fetal HIV transmission.

    He received his MD with honors at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, CO, during which time, he continued working with Breckenridge Ski Patrol. He completed general and orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. During medical school and residency, his orthopedic research interests included the molecular biology of fracture healing and upper extremity trauma.

    Jeff continued his training with a one-year Sports Medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic Denver. He provided orthopedic care and game coverage for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. His clinical and research interests lie in shoulder and knee disorders, sports medicine and arthroscopy, as well as general orthopedics, including trauma and fracture care and all ski-related injuries. He currently serves as a team physician for the USA Ski Team and USA Men’s Rugby team. He has also been active with orthopaedic care and sports medicine program development for Adams County High School Athletics and athletes and as team physician for Skyview Academy.

    Dr. Gagliano appreciates free time spent with his wife and two children. He is an outdoor sports enthusiast, including skiing, mountaineering, lacrosse, mountain biking, fishing, surfing and golf.

    Dr. Hsin specializes in sports medicine and general orthopaedics, and has been a part of the Denver Metro community since 1976. He is involved in numerous community activities including serving as a team physician for several local high schools, Colorado Christian University and the Denver Barbarians Rugby Club. He speaks to local community gatherings on orthopedic topics and writes on the subject of sports medicine for local papers.     Dr. Thomas Mann is a fellowship trained Sports Medicine specialist who joined Cornerstone Orthopedics in 2000. He is a Fellow with The American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the leading orthopedic organization for Sports Medicine in the U.S. His area of specialization includes arthroscopic surgery, knee and shoulder reconstruction, including ACL and rotator cuff repair, as well as managing athletes through injuries and their return to training and competition. Other areas of interest include fracture care and pediatric injuries.

    Dr. Mann is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, where he graduated with Honors in 1992. He was also elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and selected to the Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic training at Penn State University and subsequently completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Ohio State University, which included extensive training in arthroscopic surgery, research and both training room and team coverage experience.

    Dr. Ocel served our country for 3 years as Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at Naval Hospital Corpus Christi. He received the Naval-Marine Corp Commendation medal for his military service. Dr. Ocel moved with his family to Sydney, Australia to continue his medical education completing a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery with Dr. Martin Sullivan, Australia’s premier foot and ankle surgeon. During his fellowship, Dr. Ocel cared for many of Sydney’s top professional athletes including Australian Olympic athletes competing in the summer games of 2004. Dr. Ocel completed his fellowship with Dr. Robert Anderson at the Miller Clinic in Charlotte, NC.
