  • Avista Hospital Birth Center & Midwife Delivery The New Life Center at Avista Hospital understands that many women want the care of a Certified Nurse Midwife during their pregnancy and delivery of their new baby. How does the process of choosing midwifery for your delivery work?

    • You must schedule an initial pre-natal appointment with one of the Certified Nurse Midwives below, letting them know your intention to deliver with a midwife.
    • If you choose to become a patient, you can receive all of your pre-natal care from your certified nurse midwife.
    • You will be able to deliver your baby on the New Life Center with your midwife, receiving compassionate, individualized care.
    • At all times during your pre-natal care and delivery, an OB/GYN will be available in the case of any complication.

Midwives who deliver at Avista Adventist Hospital

  • Claudia Berg, CNMClaudia finds it a true privilege to share one of the most important and special times in a woman's life with her and her family; to be present at the birth of her child! She is very proud to have chosen the path of becoming a nurse midwife and to be able to share her passion and knowledge with her patients.

Born and raised in Germany, Claudia came to the United States in 2000, and began her career in Women's Health at the University of Maryland where she worked as a high risk Labor & Delivery nurse. After meeting her husband, she moved to Colorado where she completed her education at the University of Colorado and later Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, KY, where she received a Master's of Science degree in Nursing with an emphasis in nurse midwifery. Claudia spent 13 months practicing the art and science of midwifery at Denver Health, is excited to return back to her community and Avista Adventist Hospital that she called her “home away from home” for six years.

Claudia loves spending time with her family and four children, who she says have taught her much patience, which comes in handy given the unpredictability of labor. In her free time, she enjoys the many activities the great outdoors of beautiful Colorado offers.

Her nursing background has focused on labor and delivery, public health and clinic nursing where she has worked both internationally and throughout the Denver metro area. Her passion for women’s health and the empowering birth of her first child at Avista Adventist Hospital motivated her to pursue midwifery with the goal of serving women throughout their lives.

She completed her masters degree in nursing at Frontier Nursing University, focusing her clinical experience in the community hospital and birth center settings. Amber is inspired by the strength of the women she works with and truly believes that the health of the world begins with the mother. Before coming to work with Avista Women’s Health, she served the women of Boulder County as a nurse with the Boulder Nurse Midwives.

Amber is originally from Ohio but has happily lived in beautiful Colorado for 6 years with her husband, 5 year old son and three year old daughter. Her family enjoys most of their free time traveling or outdoors: hiking, biking, camping and exploring.
